Karnataka Lokayukta raids eight govt. officials; assets worth ₹37.71 cr. unearthed

Karnataka Lokayukta officials on Wednesday raided multiple locations across the State linked to eight government officials and unearthed assets worth ₹37.71 crore.

The searches were conducted at 41 locations, including residences, offices, and residences of the relatives of the accused government officers in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi, Koppal, and Kodagu.

The surprise checks were part of the disproportionate assets cases against the government officials, according to the Lokayukta.

Among the targeted government officials, Vasanti Amar B.V., IAS, Special Deputy Commissioner, K-Ride, Bengaluru, was found to have the highest wealth. Lokayukta officials targeted five locations linked to Ms. Amar and found her having total wealth estimated at ₹9.02 crore, including immovable assets worth ₹7.40 crore and movable assets worth ₹1.62 crore. She owns three sites, four houses, and three acres of agricultural land.

Searches at 10 places linked to Bagli Maruti, Assistant Director, Department of Urban and Rural Planning, unearthed his assets worth ₹6.34 crore, including ₹4.85 crore worth of immovable properties and ₹1.49 crore worth of movable properties. He owned eight sites, five houses, and 19 acres of agricultural land.

Lokayukta officers in Kodagu targeted four properties linked to Manjunathaswamy M., Joint Director (In-charge), Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood Department, and unearthed total assets worth ₹5.20 crore, including ₹4.45 crore worth of immovable properties and ₹75.3 lakh worth of movable properties.

The other officers who were targeted are Sunil Kumar, Health and Family Welfare Department, Kalaburagi (total assets: ₹4.34 crore); Venkatarama B., Office Assistant (Admin), MCC, Mysuru (total assets: ₹3.71 crore); Rajesh M, Assistant Executive Engineer, Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), Tumakuru (total assets: ₹3.67 crore); H.V. Yarappa Reddy, Executive Engineer, C.V. Raman Nagar Division, BBMP, Bengaluru (total assets: ₹2.62 crore); and Shekhu Chavhan, Deputy Director, District Industries Centre, Koppal (total assets: ₹2.47 crore).
