A woman died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Bannur near Balehonnur in N.R. Pura taluk in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka on July 23 night.
The deceased, Anita, 25, is a native of Honnali in Davanagere district. She came to Chikkamagaluru district to work in a coffee estate at Bannur near Balehonnur.
She encountered the elephant as she was on the way to the workers’ colony in the estate. Anita suffered serious injuries after she was attacked by the elephant. She succumbed to her injuries on the way to a hospital in Shivamogga.
The residents of Balehonnur and nearby villages are gathering for a protest condemning the deaths due to elephant attacks. Four persons have died in elephant attacks in the last six months in the taluk.
