Vizianagaram Pattana Powra Samskshema Sangham district president V. Ramachandra Rao and secretary Reddy Sankara Rao on Saturday announced that the association will organise a roundtable conference in Vizianagaram on July 28 to discuss the protection of the rythu bazaar that was removed from the premises of the old Maharaja Hospital.

Addressing a press conference, the leaders appealed to political parties, farmer groups, and consumer organisations to unite in safeguarding the rythu bazaar, which was established on government land in 1999.

Mr. Sankara Rao alleged that the Pusapati family had exerted pressure on the government to secure favourable orders over the land, despite it being government property for over 150 years. He said the land has been classified as “prohibitory” since 1922 and cannot legally be transferred to the family, which has failed to produce any ownership documents.

He further alleged that the government compelled officials to hand over the land and shut down the rythu bazaar without giving any prior notice to the farmers, who had collectively paid lakhs of rupees in rent over the past 26 years.
