A first-year undergraduate student on a scooter was fatally knocked down by a speeding private bus near the Ernakulam Town Hall on Saturday (July 26, 2025) morning.

The deceased was identified as Govind S. Shenoy, 18, a student of Sacred Heart College, Thevara. He was returning to his home near SS Kalamandir along T.D. Road after attending morning prayers at Elamakkara, when he was reportedly knocked down from behind by the bus operating along the Ernakulam-Eloor route. He was thrown off the scooter and was reportedly run over. His scooter was reduced to rubble.

According to a trader in the neighbourhood, the bus was speeding and stopped after running over the student. The Ernakulam Town police took the driver and the bus into custody.
