An armed gang hacked a 41-year-old man, who had been practising in the Madras High Court, to death at Dharapuram in Tiruppur district on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as L. Muruganantham of Muthu Nagar at Kottapulipalayam road at Dharapuram. The police said that a group of men swarmed him and hacked him to death when he visited his property at Dharapuram on Monday.
As per preliminary investigations by the police, Muruganantham’s father Lingasamy had been murdered several years ago. Lingasamy had property disputes with his younger brother Dhandapani and it continued with Muruganantham after his death, said the police.
According to the police, Dhandapani is running a private school at Dharapuram and Muruganantham moved the High Court citing constructions that allegedly violated various norms. The court directed to demolish the illegal structures, which in turn escalated Dhandapani’s enmity with Muruganantham, they said.
The police added that Muruganantham was hacked by a group of men when he visited a land close to Dhandapani’s school on Monday.
The Dharapuram police has registered a case and launched an investigation into the murder. Sources said that the police were questioning at least six suspects in the case as of Monday night.
