Investigating the recovery of six gelatine gels and 12 electronic detonators abandoned near the washroom of Kalasipalya bus stand on July 23, the police tracked down three labourers working in a quarry in Kolar, who were allegedly part of the purchase and sale of explosives for illegal quarrying and digging of borewells.
The accused — Ganesh H., Muniraju, 38 and Shivakumar, 32, from Kolar — allegedly claimed that they carried the explosives to Kalasipalya to be transported to Kollegal in a private bus for work related to quarrying and digging of borewells.
However, when they went to use the washroom, they saw transport department officials and security guards. Fearing getting caught, they dumped the sack containing the gelatine gels and 12 electric detonators in the washroom, and fled from the spot.
Based on CCTV footage, police identified the accused and tracked them down to their native places, and arrested them, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said .
The police found the identities of three more persons who supplied the explosives from a neighbouring State.
“We have considered this as a serious issue. This case exposed a network of illegal sale of explosive material,” Mr. Singh said adding that the efforts are on to track down the other accused who are on the run.
