Three convicted in ganja case, sentenced to jail by Guntur Court

The Guntur First Additional District Judge’s Court on Monday (July 29) convicted three accused in a decade-old ganja case under the NDPS Act and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment.

According to Bapatla District Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi, the case pertains to a raid conducted on December 30, 2014, at a house near the fish market in Rajeev Nagar, Karlapalem village, Bapatla district. Acting on a tip-off, then Bapatla Rural Circle Inspector V. Mallikarjuna Rao and Karlapalem police arrested Dasari Srinivasa Rao and Tokala Pitchaiah for illegally selling ganja.

Based on their confession, the police later apprehended Galam Paparao of Eluru and Pothuraju Appalanaidu of Chennagopalapatnam, Visakhapatnam district. A large quantity of ganja was seized.

After extensive trial proceedings, Judge V.L.A. Satyavati pronounced the verdict. Dasari Srinivasa Rao was sentenced to one year imprisonment and fined ₹10,000. Galam Paparao and Pothuraju Appalanaidu received four years imprisonment each and were fined ₹10,000. The other person involved in the case, Tokala Pitchaiah died during the trail.

District SP reiterated the police department’s zero-tolerance policy on drugs and warned of strict action against narcotic offenders.
