Two individuals were arrested by the officials of Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department in separate operations across the State. Opium smuggled from Rajasthan, and liquor brought in from Goa, were seized.
In the first incident, a man identified as Dinesh was arrested by the Shamshabad District Task Force (DTF) while attempting to sell opium at his shop in Attapur. Officials seized 755 grams of the contraband, which Dinesh had sourced from Rajasthan. The drug, sold in 50-gram packets for ₹20,000 each, is estimated to be worth around ₹3.5 lakh. His mobile phone and two-wheeler were also confiscated and handed over to the Shamshabad excise station.
In a separate case, a family from Peda Adisarlapally in Nalgonda district was caught attempting to smuggle liquor from Goa, reportedly with plans to distribute it ahead of local body elections to garner favour with voters. The excise team intercepted their vehicle at the Zaheerabad Chiragpally checkpost and seized 112 liquor bottles and 50 bottles of beer, all valued approximately ₹1.5 lakh.
One Jayanth Reddy was arrested by the officials and further investigation is underway.
