ISB-SERP launch pilot study to boost bamboo production

The Bharthi Institute of Public Policy of Indian School of Business (ISB-Hyderabad) and the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Andhra Pradesh State government have launched a field study to enhance the bamboo productions skills and market access for tribal communities in Rampachodavaram agency.

The ISB team on Wednesday held talks with the Konda Reddi tribal women, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) in Andhra Pradesh about the potential to promote collection of bamboo and skills required to bring out a range of products.

Rampachodavaram Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Katta Simhachalam explained the existing practices in bamboo collection by the tribals and said that the collection and production of bamboo could be scaled up if market opportunities are explored.

Additionally, he announced that a campaign would be soon held across all villages identifying women interested in joining the Bamboo Producers Company for marketing.

“The Rampachodavaram agency has been selected for a pilot project to promote bamboo products in Alluri Sitharama Raju district”, said Mr. Simhachalam.

ISB Hyderabad coordinators Sandeep Chowdary, Mr. Nani and Mr. Hamanth Kumar along with other officials were present.
