The CPI(M) activists staged a protest at the land allotted to the LuLu Group near RK Beach for the construction of a mall, demanding cancellation of the allotment. They also sought that a CBI probe be ordered into the ‘illegal land allotment’ to the MNC.

CPI(M) district secretary M. Jaggunaidu wondered how an MNC could be allowed to operate near RK Beach, where the Indian Navy organises operational demonstrations with VVIPs such as the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in attendance.

The 13.74 acres of land, valued at around ₹3,000 crore, was allotted to the MNC at ₹1.50 per square yard. Alleging a scam in the land allotment, he demanded that the Centre should order a CBI inquiry into the issues.

Pointing out that Visakhapatnam, the commercial capital of A.P., draws lakhs of tourists, he said the land be utilised for creating some public amenities.

He warned that the CPI(M) would intensify agitation if the land allotment was not cancelled.

GVMC Floor Leader B. Ganga Rao said contrary to the statements of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that the mall would provide a number of jobs, it would throw small traders out of their employment.

CPI(M) district secretariat member P. Mani called upon the people to oppose the ‘illegal’ land allotments to corporate groups and MNCs.

CPI(M) district committee leaders RKSV Kumar, Botta Eswaramma, P. Pydiraju, A. Surendra Kumar, K. Ramaprabha, L.J. Naidu and S. Jyothiswara Rao were among those who participated in the protest.
