The allegations of honey trapping levelled by Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna that had created ripples in the political circles seems to have ended in an anti-climax with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) concluding that there is no evidence to prove such charges.
The CID, which conducted a probe into the episode, has submitted its report to the government.
According to sources, the probe did not yield any substantial evidence to back the allegations by Mr. Rajanna that he was honey-trapped by unknown persons.
No CCTV, entries
There was no CCTV camera installed at his residence, and no entries were recorded in the official visitor’s registry regarding the persons related to the honey trapping. Neither Mr. Rajanna provided any concrete evidence to substantiate his claim nor did he recognise anyone involved in the incident, sources said.
The report was submitted to the DG & IGP for final scrutiny before being submitted to the government.
The government had decided to order a CID probe after Mr. Rajanna made allegations related to honey trapping on the floor of the Assembly during the previous legislature session. He had said there was an organised honey trapping network to trap prominent personalities. The Opposition had resorted to a dharna seeking action based on Mr. Rajanna’s allegations.
BJP’s poser to Rajanna
Meanwhile the BJP expressed concern over the CID report concluding that there were no evidence. “The Congress government is covering up irregularities. If the Ministers themselves do not get justice, what is the fate of poor people?” asked Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok.
Taking to social media, he demanded that Mr. Rajanna should urge the government to seek a CBI probe. “If the allegations are not true, then Mr. Rajanna should apologise on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, as he had raised the issue there, in the forthcoming legislature session,” Mr. Ashok demanded.
The issue may cause embarrassment for Mr. Rajanna as well as the government during the forthcoming legislature session.
