A Special Sub Inspector (SSI) of Police who was injured in a road accident in Vellanur police station limits in the district on Thursday evening, died on Friday.
Police gave the name of the SSI as Muthukumar, 52, who was attached to the Udayalipatti police station. The SSI was riding a motorcycle to his native village Vadaseripatti when a tanker lorry coming in the opposite direction collided with the two-wheeler on the Tiruchi-Karaikudi national highway near Parangikulam Neduncheri.Â
The SSI sustained serious injuries on the head, chest, right wrist, and right leg. He was at first admitted to the Pudukottai Government Medical College Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Tiruchi where he died on Friday. The Vellanur police have registered a case and named the tanker lorry driver R. Krishnasamy as the accused.
