While its previous election process stands paused since March last, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has issued a fresh notification for holding its polls in Delhi-NCR on August 21.

Following World Boxing’s ultimatum to hold BFI’s long overdue elections by August 31, the interim committee (IC), which is running the national federation and is headed by BFI’s outgoing president Ajay Singh, had assured to stick to the deadline while underlining that ongoing legal proceedings posed challenges.

As per the fresh notification, issued on Thursday, the member units should send names of two of their representatives “as per the provisions of BFI’s constitution as approved by WB” by Monday.

Former BFI vice-president Rajesh Bhandari objected to a new notice. “When the election is paused, how can the IC issue a fresh notification?,” asked Bhandari, while raising questions over the WB-approved BFI constitution (dated May 18, 2025) since the BFI general house had not met in recent times.
