The Kanagal police of Nalgonda have arrested two people for stealing batteries from parked vehicles, including tractors, auto-rickshaws and motorcycles, across several areas in the district.

Police seized 28 batteries, estimated to be worth ₹1.45 lakh, along with the motorcycle and auto-rickshaw used in the crimes, and ₹24,000 in cash.

The accused were identified as Samudrala Krishna, 28, a labourer from Gollaguda, and Shaikh Tipu Sultan alias Sultan, 26, a packer and mover from Usmanpura, both residents of Nalgonda town.

Following a spate of complaints, including one by Komatireddy Karunakar Reddy of K.B. Thanda on July 27 regarding the theft of his motorcycle, Kanagal police launched a special drive.

On August 3, while conducting vehicle checks at Kanagal X road on the Nalgonda-Devarakonda highway, police flagged down two suspects travelling in an auto and a motorcycle. On inspection, they found 20 batteries being transported illegally and took the duo into custody.

Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to thefts across multiple locations. Further probe is underway.
