Telangana Jagruthi president and MLC K. Kavitha has launched a 72 hour hunger strike at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad on Monday (August 4, 2025) demanding 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BC) communities. The protest is designed to give 40 of approximately 112 BC communities a chance to put forth their problems. She said that they will not drink water or eat food for 72 hours.
Stating that Telangana Jagruthi always stuck to the timings of protest fixed by the government, Ms. Kavitha appealed to the government to give permission for the hunger strike to be held for 72-hours. “If you deny this and take us to the police station or hospital or homes, we will stage the strike there,” she said.Â

Ms. Kavitha who has been actively holding programmes and speaking about various issues from the past few months, has been demanding reservations for BCs. Â
Speaking on the occasion, she said that the Congress government has to stand by Kamareddy declaration and 42% reservation has to be given to BCs in the impending local body elections. “This is a fight for self-respect, following Gandhian principles,” she said.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders and cadre have left in a special train to Delhi on Monday, to participate in a dharna seeking assent of President to the bills — passed by the Telangana legislature — seeking the 42% reservations.
