Parts of Kerala are likely to witness intense rainfall activity fuelled by the upper cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining south Tamil Nadu.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts on Monday (August 4, 2025), warning of very heavy rainfall, while the rest of the State was put on yellow alert, where isolated heavy rainfall is likely.

Alerts for Tuesday

A red alert has been issued for Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur on Tuesday, where extreme heavy rainfall is likely, while Pathnamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Malappuram have been put on orange alert

Strong westerlies/northwesterlies are also prevailing over the Kerala and Lakshadweep area in the lower tropospheric levels.

Thodupuzha in Idukki recorded the highest rainfall of 13 cm during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday, followed by Athirappally in Thrissur (12 cm), Kanjirappally in Kottayam (10 cm), Udumbannoor in Idukki (9 cm), Mangalam in Palakkad (8 cm), Parambikulam in Palakkad, Vythiri in Wayanad, Palode in Thiruvananthapuram, Ranni in Pathanamthitta, and Kuppadi in Wayanad with 7 cm each.
