Nesapakkam, located near K.K. Nagar, has several narrow roads despite being heavily congested with vehicular traffic, as it offers easy access to Mount-Poonamallee Road. One of the key arterial roads in the area is Erikkarai Salai, which connects Mount-Poonamallee Road with Anna Main Road in K.K. Nagar.
However, this road has become narrow at several points due to encroachments by shops and even thatched houses. Many of these thatched houses, including those near the Corporation playground, have encroached upon the road. Additionally, numerous shops have been constructed on public property, occupying the road margins and drastically reducing its width.
During peak hours, road users face severe hardships in accessing the Erikkarai Road as the encroachments cause traffic bottlenecks.
We request the Chennai Corporation, as well as the City Traffic police, to take steps to remove the encroachments to ease traffic congestion on the arterial road.

Chennai Corporation responds
A senior official of the Kodambakkam zone of the Chennai Corporation said eviction notices have already been served on the owners of the thatched houses by providing alternative housing. Shops have also been issued notices, and soon, the encroachments will be removed, the official said.
Incomplete macro canal work
A portion of the macro canal work executed on Velachery Main Road, aimed at preventing flooding in residential areas and the arterial road of Pallikaranai, remains unfinished. A small section of the canal, which was to be linked at the Pallikaranai Marshland, has been left incomplete, resulting in sewage flowing through the canal and delaying the restoration of the road. We request the State Highways Department to take immediate steps to complete the construction of the macro canal at the earliest, in order to make the arterial road fully usable.
