A cobra found inside an anganwadi in Karumaloor panchayat near Aluva on Monday.
An anganwadi at Veliyathunadu in Karumaloor panchayat near Aluva had a big scare when a cobra was found inside an almirah on Monday (August 4) afternoon.
Forest department officials, who were alerted, took the snake away. The incident took place at Thadikkakadavu anganwadi number 131 at Veliyathunadu. The snake was spotted inside the wall-mounted almirah while taking out toys for the children. It was found lying behind a box.
When the anganwadi helper, Aani, lifted the box, the cobra hooded. Though scared out of her wits, she had the presence of mind to run outside carrying the children sitting on the floor. She was joined by another helper, Sunitha, who fell down and injured her head. By then, people in the neighbourhood also rushed in hearing the workers screaming.
A rescuer from Alangad who was summoned captured the snake, which was later handed over to officials from the Ayyampuzha forest division. The anganwadi operates next to a paddy field. A window pane of the building was broken the other day. It is suspected that the snake could have crept in through it.
Karumaloor panchayat president Sabitha Nasser said that necessary measures would be taken to ensure the safety of children.
