Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya to upgrade the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Tiruchi.
The MP has also called for the establishment of a sub-regional office of the ESIC in Tiruchi at the earliest.
Mr. Durai Vaiko called on the Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday to hand over his representations on the issues.
He said a 50-bedded hospital of the ESIC was functioning in Tiruchi, catering to ESIC beneficiaries and their families from the districts of Tiruchi, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapatitnam. However, the facilities at the hospital in terms of specialist doctors, equipment and infrastructure were inadequate.
He urged the Minister to upgrade the hospital to a 100-bedded one with requisite manpower, equipment and additional buildings to cater to the requirements of the working class of the region.
Mr. Durai Vaiko also urged the Minister to take steps to establish a sub-regional office of ESIC in Tiruchi as the standing committee of ESIC at its meeting held in December 2016 had approved the formation of a sub-regional office in Tiruchi by bifurcating the one at Salem. However, no progress had been made on the decision yet. “A sub-regional office is essential to cater to the needs of nearly 2.5 lakh employees and 12,000-15,000 employers.”
It was understood that new branches had been sanctioned in the delta region, which were to come under the Tiruchi Sub-Regional Office, but were not functional yet, he added.
