One held in Tamil Nadu Congress MP’s chain snatching case in Delhi

The Delhi Police on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) arrested one person in connection with Congress’s Lok Sabha MP from Mayiladuthurai, R. Sudha’s chain snatching case. 

The police identified the accused as Sonu alias Sohan Rawat, who was arrested from Okhla’s Harkesh Nagar area. The breakthrough came after the accused was found riding a two wheeler in the Moti Bagh area after he committed the alleged crime, said a senior officer. 

“The accused was released on bail on June 26 after which he was found on camera snatching the MP’s chain, he is a habitual offender,” said the officer. 

The accused has several cases against him in police stations in Hauz Khas, Kalkaji, Sunlight Colony, Maar Colony, RK Puram, Naraina, Saket, said the officer. 

The arrest was made by the Delhi Police’s Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) South. The police also recovered the chain, the scooter used in the crime, another stolen two-wheeler, four mobile phones, the clothes, and the helmet he wore during the stanching. 

The MP had reported that her chain was snatched while she was on a walk near the Polish Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area and that she suffered minor injuries and her clothes were torn during the incident. She slammed the Delhi Government for failing to ensure the safety of women in the city.
