The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) identified the attempts to fill a storm water drain in Kukatpally and slapped cases against a renowned construction company, here on Wednesday.
The company, Vasavi Developers, encroached the drain, and its buffer area, between Bharat Nagar and Kaitalapur, a statement from HYDRAA informed.
Acting upon complaints from the local residents, chief of HYDRAA A.V. Ranganath conducted a field inspection and identified violations on part of the builder who filled in the drain that connects Kamuni Cheruvu and Maisamma Cheruvu lakes. The HYDRAA officials also identified pillars inside the drain, meant for a slab.
Acting upon Mr. Ranganath’s instructions, Irrigation department officials lodged a complaint in the Kukatpally police station against the builder. A case has been registered, the statement said.
The drain’s filled in portion was de-silted, and following instructions from Mr. Ranganath, the silt was dumped at the site of the construction. The statement said that the builder had been pre-warned about adherence to norms pertaining to distance from the drain, yet violated the same.
Mr. Ranganath also inspected the Khajaguda heritage rock formations, upon complaints by the Society to Save Rocks, and assured the latter, that he would soon conduct a meeting with all the stakeholders for protection of the site.
