The BJP took out a vehicle rally from Karkala to Udupi and held a protest in the premises of Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday to urge the government to complete the Parashurama Theme Park project at Bailoor, near Karkala, at the earliest and reopen the park for visitors.

In a letter submitted to the Udupi Deputy Commissioner, the Karkala unit of the party said Karkala Tahsildar temporarily banned visitors to the park on October 7, 2023, and wrote to Karkala town police on October 9, 2023, to provide security to complete the pending works of the project at Umikal Betta in Bailoor.

The government has so far released ₹6.72 crore of the ₹11.05 crore project cost for the works. It is yet to release the balance amount of ₹4.33 crore.

The BJP said that the project works have come to a standstill due to a political conspiracy. The buildings at the project site are not being maintained.

The government should take up the pending works within a month by releasing the pending amount, it said.

Later, speaking to press persons in Udupi, Satish Shetty Mutlupady, spokesperson, district unit of the party, said that the BJP will take out a ‘padayatra’ from Karkala to Bailoor if the government does not take up the pending works and continue to fight to complete the project and reopen it for tourists.

V. Sunil Kumar, MLA for Karkala, and, Udupi district BJP president Kutyar Naveen Shetty spoke at the protest.
