The Delhi police on Wednesday arrested one person in connection with the snatching of the gold chain of a Congress MP from Tamil Nadu in Chanakyapuri on Monday.

The accused, identified as Sohan Rawat alias Sonu, was arrested from Okhla’s Harkesh Nagar area.

R. Sudha, Lok Sabha member from Mayiladuthurai, had complained that she was robbed of her gold chain, weighing more than four sovereigns, by a bike-borne assailant when she was on a morning walk along with DMK Rajya Sabha member Rajathi Salma outside the Embassy of Poland in Chanakyapuri. Ms. Sudha had sustained minor injuries in the incident.

A police officer said with the help of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the accused was found riding a two-wheeler in the Moti Bagh area after committing the alleged crime.

On Wednesday morning, the police received a tip-off on the accused’s location. “A trap was laid and Sonu was apprehended along with the stolen two-wheeler he had allegedly used in the crime,” said the police officer.

“The accused is a habitual offender and was released on bail on June 26,” said the officer, adding that the chain was recovered from his possession.
