The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) will replace low-tension (LT) overhead conductors with insulated air bunched cables in densely populated and vulnerable localities across Greater Hyderabad.
The initiative, announced by TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui, follows a recent inspection drive conducted across four circles in the Metro Zone, Banjara Hills, Secunderabad, Hyderabad Central, and Hyderabad South. The inspections revealed that nearly 550 kilometres of existing LT overhead lines, many of which run dangerously close to residential structures in slums and congested lanes, are in need of immediate replacement, said a release.
According to the CMD, a plan is in place to complete the installation of air bunched cables in these areas by the end of August. The project will subsequently be extended to other circles within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
The announcement was made during a review meeting held at the TGSPDCL Corporate Office on Wednesday, which was attended by around 160 sub-engineers and assistant engineers from the Metro Zone.
Addressing the gathering, the CMD urged engineers to be pro-active in addressing consumer concerns, adhere to work timelines, and maintain a strong presence in the field.
