Involving the denizens of the city in cracking the whip on traffic violations, the Kurnool city police have launched a WhatsApp number to which any individual can send a photo or video of any violation for the police to take action. Photos or videos related to triple riding, wrong parking, wrong route driving and others can be sent to the WhatsApp number.
Launching the ‘Nenu Traffic Mithra’ (I am a friend of Traffic Police) at the Kondareddy Buruju in Kurnool city on Thursday, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil said the programme was launched to partner the people, auto drivers, and others with the police in discharging their duties and sought the support of the people and youth.
“Send photos or videos of triple riding, rash driving, wrong parking, driving while using a mobile phone, drunken driving, over-speeding, wrong route driving and any other violation to police WhatsApp number 7777877722,” the SP said. Mr Vikrant Patil said the police will analyse, confirm and then either counsel or take penal action against the violator. Mr Vikrant Patil said the identity of the informant will be kept a secret.
To decongest the city, Mr Vikrant Patil said a meeting with the officials of AP State Road Transport Corporation, municipal corporation and transport department will be held soon to take necessary steps to prevent some buses and heavy vehicles into the city. He said the traffic police have been allocated a drone and any traffic jam or snarl will be identified and cleared with the help of its footage.
Later, the SP held a meeting with auto and educational institution bus drivers and asked them to follow traffic rules and also inform police about movement of any suspicious people. Mr Vikrant Patil said passing crucial information will reduce crime and urged the cooperation of the 20-odd auto drivers for it.
