The Ernakulam Rural police arrested two persons with 16 kilograms of suspected ganja from Marottichuvadu near Kalady on Saturday.
The arrested are Sahidul Islam, 31, of Murshidabad in West Bengal, and Hasanur Islam, 33, of Malda in West Bengal. The special squad of the Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police and the Kalady police made the arrests.
The accused were under the police radar for a while. They allegedly smuggled in suspected ganja from Odisha for ₹3,000 per kilogram and used to sell it here for ₹25,000. After the alleged sale, they used to return home. They had been reportedly carrying out the alleged smuggling by train.
They had alighted at the Angamaly railway station and reached Marottichuvadu by an autorickshaw. They had planned the sale at Kalady, the police said.
