The academic council of the University of Calicut has set up a six-member committee to suggest proposals on launching dual undergraduate degree programmes in affiliated colleges as per the University Grants Commissions revised guidelines.
This was decided at the council’s meeting held on the university campus at Tenhipalam in Malappuram district on Wednesday (August 13, 2025). According to official sources, P. Rasheed Ahammed, Syndicate member, will be its convener, and P.P. Pradyumnan, K. Pradeep Kumar, P. Sushanth, T. Mohammed Saleem, and Sabu T. Thomas will be its members. Dual UG programmes allow students to pursue two regular courses, one regular course and one distance education course, or two distance education courses at the same time.
The meeting decided to decline approval for admissions to a student who had got in to the Oriental School of Hotel Management, Vythiri, Wayanad, without clearing the Plus Two exams. The Syndicate had been authorised to take action against the institution. The incident happened in the 2014-15 academic year.
