Burglars decamped with 39 sovereigns of gold jewellery and silver objects from the house of a farmer at Thimiri village near Arcot town in Ranipet on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, R. Vetriveeran, 60, was living with his family for many years in the village. Initial inquiry revealed that Vetriveeran and his family members went to Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy temple at Sholingur town in the district. When the family returned home, they found that the main door of the house was damaged.

Cupboards and almirah were broken. Valuables including cash, gold jewellery, and silver objects were missing. The CCTV cameras at the house were damaged and the hard disk, which stores the recorded footage, was also missing.

Immediately, he alerted the Thimiri police, who rushed to the shop with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. Police have also secured the footage along the route where the house is located. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Ayman Jamal has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered and further probe is under way.
