The Thanjavur All Women Police have arrested a vegetable vendor, M. Mohammed Asiq, 30, of Tiruchi on charges of sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl.
According to the police, the Thanjavur All Women Police received a complaint from the mother of the 16-year-old girl, residing on the outskirts of Thanjavur, stating that her daughter had been subjected to sexual harassment by the accused.
The accused, who used to sell vegetables at the nearby weekly market, first developed a ‘friendship’ with the girl and subsequently attempted to have a physical relationship with her at her house when her parents were away by promising to marry her. Annoyed by his behaviour, the girl informed her mother about it. Asiq was arrested under POCSO Act and remanded in judicial custody.
