Telangana police win one gallantry and 13 service medals

A constable from Telangana police has been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, while 13 other officers from the State have been recognised for distinguished and meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day.

Police Constable Katravath Raju Naik was conferred the Medal for Gallantry for his exemplary courage in the line of duty.

On January 5, 2023, Naik, who was then working with the Jagadgirigutta police of the Cyberabad Commissionerate, was part of a team searching for a murder accused in Sikh Colony, Yellammabanda.

During the operation, the suspect, 19-year-old Sardar Chamkorthi alias Karan Singh, attacked Naik and another constable with a knife, inflicting bleeding injuries. The injured constables were immediately shifted to a hospital, while Singh was taken into custody. The accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in February 2025.

Mr. Naik is currently working with the Cyberabad Special Operation Team (SOT).

The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service was awarded to Assistant Sub-Inspector Siddaiah Myathari and Head Constable Hussain Nidamanuri for their long-standing commitment and exceptional service records.

Eleven officers received the Medal for Meritorious Service, who include – Deputy Commissioners of Police Nallamala Ravi, Thogaru Karunakar, and J Shaik Shameer, Commandant Putta Devidas, Armed Police Sub-Inspectors Mekala Abraham, Shinde Prakash, Mudavath Dasharath, and Ramdular Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Mohd Moizuddin, Rajeshuni Srinivas, and Rudra Krishna Kumar.

These honours, announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, recognise personnel from across the country for gallantry, distinguished, and meritorious service in the police force.

Additionally, the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Services was awarded to Leading Fireman B. Gopal Reddy of Jammikunta Fire Station, Karimnagar district, Leading Fireman Mohammed Waheedullah Khan of Metpally Fire Station, Jagtial district, Leading Fireman T. Nagesh of Mulugu Fire Station, Mulugu district, and Leading Fireman Md. Sadiq of Bhadrachalam Fire Station, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
