Two members of an inter-state gang who carried out a daylight dacoity at a jewellery store in Chandanagar on Hyderabad outskirts earlier this week were arrested by the Cyberabad police. The arrests led to the recovery of nearly 900 grams of stolen silver articles. Investigators identified a total of seven individuals involved in the case.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Aashish Kumar Singh and Deepak Kumar Sah, both 22 years old and natives of Saran district in Bihar.
The case dates to August 12, when six masked men stormed Khazana Jewellers in Chandanagar and opened fire at deputy manager of the store Satish Kumar, injuring his left knee. The gang looted about 10 kilograms of silver articles, including gold-coated ornaments, before fleeing the spot. The injured staff member was taken to hospital for treatment, while police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Investigation revealed that the gang had travelled from Bihar with plans to target gold and diamond jewellery shops in Hyderabad using firearms. With the assistance of Sah, a welding worker based in the city, they rented a house in Asbestos Colony, Jeedimetla, on July 31, arranged two second-hand motorbikes, and conducted reconnaissance of showrooms in Chandanagar before executing the robbery.
Singh was later apprehended in Maharashtra, and based on his confession, Sah was traced and arrested in Hyderabad. Police said Sah had facilitated accommodation, vehicles, and the selection of targets for the gang. Further efforts are on to nab the remaining offenders.
The Cyberabad police urged jewellery shop owners to enhance security during business hours, install intrusion alarms, and coordinate closely with local police stations to prevent such incidents.
