City Police will write to Instagram to act quickly on complaints related to hate posts

The Greater Chennai City Police will write to Instagram to act upon the complaints quickly relating to hate videos/reels.

In an interaction with the crime reporters, the City Police Commissioner A. Arun said the cybercrime police have been facing certain difficulties in blocking such videos quickly. Law enforcement can request the social media network to block or remove content or accounts that contain illegal activities or communal hatred. They have different norms for blocking or removing the contents and all those norms were framed by them, according to law of the country in which the company is registered at.

“We will tell the social media network about the consequences of such content and have a mechanism to act upon the complaints of users fast as well as law enforcing agencies,” Mr. Arun said.

The reporters brought to the notice of the commissioner that some commercial outlets are collecting the phone number for sending their bills under the pretext of giving bonus points. “We have already told the shopkeepers and others not to collect mobile numbers,” he said.
