The Anekal police have registered a suo motu case against poachers, and a search has been launched to track them down.

The residents of Haldenahalli village, on the outskirts of Anekal, woke up in the wee hours of Sunday, hearing gunshots being fired at around 3 a.m. on Sunday. Based on the information, the police verified footage from CCTV cameras in the area, which showed a gang of four men wearing headlamps and carrying single-barrel guns.

It was suspected that it was a local gang and went on a hunt for rabbits, deer, or wild boars.

A suo motu case has been registered under Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Indian Arms Act, 1959.
