Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (August 17, 2025) criticised the Opposition parties for Delhi’s “slow development” and expressed satisfaction with the work done by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government in a short time.

“Although it is an arduous task to uplift Delhi from the mess of previous governments, the current government will strive to restore the pride of Delhi,” Mr. Modi said.

In a veiled reference to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the PM said “conspiracies were recently hatched” to pit Delhi and Haryana residents against each other with “false claims” about contaminated water supply. “Delhi and the NCR have now been freed from such negative politics,” he said.

AAP hit back, saying sanitation workers and teachers were pressured to attend the PM’s rally. “The people of Delhi refuse to attend the rally as they are not with the BJP, which grabbed power through deceit,” the party’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj said.
