Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster, launched a new weekly cricket programme in collaboration with CricViz, titled ‘The Great Indian Cricket Show’, in the national capital on Monday. The show, which will be telecast on Doordarshan’s sports channel (DD Sports) every Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m., aims to celebrate India’s cricketing heritage with the help of enlightening data and effective storytelling.

Former India cricketers Anil Kumble, Sanjay Manjrekar, Sanjay Bangar and Parthiv Patel will appear as guests on the show, and share insights and anecdotes on some of India’s best cricketing moments.

Attending the launch event here on Monday were ex-cricketers Madan Lal, Chetan Sharma, Murali Kartik and Aakash Chopra. Navneet Kumar Sehgal (Chairman of Prasar Bharati), Gaurav Dwivedi (Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharathi) and Michael Kivido (Managing Director of CricViz) were present for the launch.

“What the show promises to bring out is lots of stories with the help of stats. Cold numbers alone tell you nothing. With CricViz providing stats and a lot of information, good storytelling can possibly help present a different picture,” Kartik, a left-arm spinner who played for India from 2000 to 2007, said.
