Three Three persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of a woman and burying her in a graveyard, the police said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Shadab Ali, 47, Shahrukh Khan, 28, and Tanveer, 25, have been booked under Sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (A) (disappearance of evidence), 61 (2) (common intent), 140 (3) (kidnapping with the intent to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The fourth accused, whose identity has not been disclosed, is at large.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said the accused, Ali, suspected his wife of having an affair and gave her sleeping pills and weedicide on August 2, leading to her death, after which he, along with three of his associates, buried the woman in a graveyard in south Delhi’s Chandan Hola.

The couple has two children – an 11-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.

Missing complaint filed

The matter came to light when the woman’s friend, Afsana, lodged a missing person report with the police on August 10. Ms. Afsana told the police that she had received multiple calls from a man based in Dubai, with whom the deceased allegedly had an affair, about being unable to reach her on the phone for a couple of days.

Following the complaint, the police interrogated Ali, who told the police that he no longer lives with his wife and is unsure of her whereabouts.

“We were suspicious of his evasive responses. Through CCTV footage, we found him carrying a woman in an unconscious condition from her home to his work site on July 27,” said the DCP.

The police filed an FIR on August 15 and arrested Ali, who on further interrogation told the police that after keeping his wife in unconscious state for four days at his work site, he brought her back to his home and fed her sleeping pills and weedicide on August 2.

“After his wife died, with the help of his three colleagues, he took his wife’s body to a graveyard in Chandan Hola and buried her on the intervening night of August 2-3,” said the officer.

Body exhumed

The police took the accused to the spot to identify the grave and exhumed the woman’s body. The forensic experts were called to examine the remains. “The vehicle used for transporting the body was found in the possession of Khan, an electrician who works at Chandan Hola,”said the DCP, adding that Tanveer, a painter, was nabbed from Mehrauli. Further probe is under way, the DCP added.
