Karnataka rain: Hamlet turned into island, SDRF personnel summoned to rescue stranded residents

State disaster response force and fire and emergency service personnel rushed to Hulagabal village near Athani in Belagavi district of Karnataka following reports of around 100 persons being stuck on an island in the village. The stranded persons are members of around 40 families.

The piece of land that residents of the Mang Wasti area live on has been converted into an island following heavy rains in Belagavi district, and discharge from Maharashtra.

Among those stranded are a pregnant woman and a bedridden senior citizen.

Their plight was known only after they began shouting for help. Residents in nearby areas heard them, and informed the police. SDRF and fire and emergency service personnel were dispatched from Athani.

Rescue efforts are on.
