Expressing concern over huge losses to the standing crop due to the heavy rains in north Karnataka, senior Congress MLA B. R. Patil Wednesday urged the government to immediately request the Centre to depute a study team to assess the extent of losses in Karnataka so that the State could get Central assistance and provide compensation to the affected farmers.
While MLAs cutting across party affiliations urged government to provide compensation to the affected farmers immediately, while participating in a debate in the Assembly on development as well as crop losses, B.R. Patil sought to remind the government about the procedures to be followed immediately.
He appealed to the State to immediately conduct a survey of crop losses due to rains and present it before the State legislature before the end of the monsoon session.
Alleging that the State was yet to release insurance settlement amount of ₹341 crore to the claimant farmers of Kalaburagi district, he urged the government to direct the authorities concerned to immediately release the money as farmers were in distress.
