Eight passengers and the crew of a government bus escaped unhurt after the vehicle crashed into a retaining wall and was left hanging on a bridge over a lake near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district.

The bus was operating between Ponneri and Minjur via the villages of Aladu, Reddypalayam, Thathaimanji, and Kattur in Tiruvallur district. It had returned from Minjur and was on its way back to Ponneri.

While the bus was near Thathaimanji village, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure, and it crashed into the retaining wall of a bridge. As the bus was left dangerously hanging on the edge of the bridge, the eight passengers and the crew managed to get down quickly and escape unharmed.

The police and transport authorities are in the process of retrieving the bus. Police sources said the accident occurred due to brake failure, and that further investigation is on.
