The fourth Reliance Football Young Champs (RFYC) Laupang League kicked off in Aizawl, with one of the brightest footballers from Mizoram, 18-year-old Cindy Remruatpuii Colney, doing the honour on Saturday.

Cindy has already represented the country in the under-17 and -20 competitions, and has also represented East Bengal in the Indian Women’s League.

Her presence was an inspiration for the young players in the under-6 to -14 age group from the four districts of Aizawl, Champhai, Kolasib and Lunglei, who will be playing nearly 2,600 matches in a span of nine months.

The kids league provides a comprehensive platform for boys and girls, serving as a catalyst for community development in Mizoram.

“Mizoram’s love for football runs deep. It is part of our identity. The culture breeds competitiveness and humility, essential for success. A consistent, well-structured league gives kids a competitive yet safe environment, helping them develop confidence, discipline and a lifelong love for football,” said the National team’s Mizo star, and a member of Mumbai City FC, Lallianzuala Chhangte, at the launch.

With additional teams and restructured format, the league has been expanded, with a provision for a bigger finale at the inter-district stage.
