A motorbike was gutted on the premises of a fuel station at Desom, Aluva, on Saturday night (August 23), triggering a panic situation. The fire was doused by the staff of the fuel station using extinguishers, averting what could have escalated into a major tragedy.
The Chengamanad police said that the bike caught fire as the rider, identified as Prasad from Desom, tried to light a cigarette. Petrol left on the lid of the fuel tank caught fire. According to the police, Prasad was under the influence of alcohol. He would be booked on charge of drunk driving, they said. No one was injured in the incident.
