Lawyers of all district courts in Delhi, who have been on strike since Friday, will continue to abstain from work on Monday in protest against a recent notification issued by Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena designating police stations in the national capital as videoconferencing centres for officers to provide evidence in court.
The decision to continue the protest was taken on Saturday at a meeting of the coordination committee of all bar associations of district courts at the Tis Hazari Courts Complex.
Mr. Saxena, in the notification released on August 13, stated that videoconferencing rooms set up in police stations across Delhi will be considered as âdesignated placesâ for police officers to give court depositions.
Stating that there will be demonstrations outside all court complexes, the committee said âthe public prosecutors/Enforcement Directorate/Central Bureau of Investigation prosecutors/police officials, including Naib courts, shall also not be allowed to appear in the courtsâ in protest against the âarbitrary notificationâ.
âWill intensify protestsâ
The coordination committee cautioned that if the notification is not withdrawn by Monday, it will be compelled to intensify protests, including a âgherao of the L-G Houseâ.
