The office-bearers of Indian Medical Association’s Haryana chapter and doctors of private hospitals in the State burnt copies of the MoU with the Haryana government over the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme at Panipat on Sunday. They were protesting against the alleged non-payment of dues to hospitals running into several hundred crores.

Hospitals in Haryana have halted treatment under the scheme since August 7.

Former IMA Haryana president Ajay Mahajan said the government must exhibit the will power to earmark adequate funds and put in place a mechanism for timely payment in order to run the scheme successfully.

“The doctors decided to burn the copies of the MoU since the government has failed to honour the understanding reached between them and the government for payment within a stipulate time period,” said Mr. Mahajan, adding that doctors from private hospitals from across the State took part in the protest.

We have been invited for talks with the Haryana Chief Secretary on Monday morning on this issue and the next course of action would be decided based on the outcome of the meeting, he said.

Mr. Mahajan said the Indian Medical Association national president Dilip Bhanushali had also extended support to the its Haryana chapter over the issue of delay in payments under the scheme and the suspension of treatment.

The office-bearers of the Haryana IMA alleged that the Haryana government, instead of making payments and looking for a long-lasting solution, was being hostile and issuing threats to the doctors. The defamatory labelling and harassment of hospitals must cease immediately, demanded the IMA Haryana, adding that a transparent, time-bound grievance redressal system must be established and effectively implemented. The Central government‘s health scheme rate list should be enforced for all packages, as it is considered “fair, robust,” and less susceptible to manipulation, demanded the doctors’ body.
