Lt. Governor urges overseas Indian entrepreneurs to invest in Puducherry

Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan has called upon overseas Indian entrepreneurs to consider investing in a range of promising sectors in Puducherry as the government has undertaken various measures to improve the ease of doing business.

Inaugurating a three-day business summit, organised by the Puducherry government in collaboration with the Global Organisation for People of Indian Originon Saturday, the Lt. Governor said the Union Territory has emerged as an attractive business and investment destination in sectors such as education, tourism, and healthcare.

The government is implementing a process to expedite the process of granting permits to investors in Puducherry to reduce the hassle faced by them. Moreover, Puducherry has excellent infrastructure facilities for starting a new business. Apart from the expansion of the airport, upgrades to the sea transport infrastructure and highway development works are apace, Mr. Kailashnathan said.

According to the Lt. Governor, efforts are also being made to promote tourism in all forms, including spiritual tourism, health tourism, eco-tourism, and heritage tourism. He also pointed to a survey (Lonely Planet) that listed Puducherry as the second most globally trending must-visit tourist destinations, after Toulouse in France.

Pointing out that People of Indian Origin and Indians living abroad had emerged as successful entrepreneurs and businessmen in many countries of the world, and were inspiring India’s youth, Mr. Kailashnathan urged them to direct substantive investments into their homeland and help realise India’s ambition to become the world’s third largest economy.

A. Namassivayam, Home and Industries Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, Tourism Minister, government officials, GOPIO representatives and business leaders participated.

Around 600 entrepreneurs from 30-odd countries are attending the summit. Around 100 stalls have been set up by entrepreneurs to showcase various products. Representatives of MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) have been positioned at the pavilions to offer detailed presentations on products and business opportunities. Experts drawn from various fields are leading sessions on the range of business opportunities in Puducherry.
