Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming crime drama Inspector Zende, featuring Manoj Bajpayee in the role of Mumbai police officer Madhukar Zende. The film will begin streaming on September 5.

The trailer features Bajpayee in police uniform alongside his team. Netflix also shared a poster for the film image a few days ago with the caption: “Interpol’s most wanted meets Mumbai’s most unstoppable. Can Carl Bhojraj escape this time? Watch Inspector Zende, out 5 September, only on Netflix.”

The film is based on Zende’s pursuit of Charles Sobhraj, a convicted serial killer often referred to as the “Bikini Killer.” In the Netflix version, the character has been renamed Carl Bhojraj and is played by Jim Sarbh. The film depicts the police operation that led to Sobhraj’s eventual arrest.

Inspector Zende is directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar and also stars Bhalchandra Kadam, Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak and Harish Dudhade.

The project follows earlier works about Zende, including Akshay Shah’s 2023 documentary Zende and Zende’s own memoir, Mumbai’s Most Wanted: The Thrilling Case Files of a Supercop.

Sobhraj was known for targeting young travelers in Asia during the 1970s and was convicted of multiple murders. His 1986 escape from Tihar Jail, in which he reportedly drugged guards during a staged party, remains one of the most notorious prison breaks in India.
