The trailer of Tamil actor Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film, Madharaasi, directed by AR Murugadoss, was unveiled by the makers on Sunday (August 24) in a grand audio launch ceremony in Chennai. Starring Rukmini Vasanth, the film is set to release in theatres on September 5.

“Love others the way you love yourself. Consider everyone your family. This is what all religions and all gods tell you,” says a female character in the voiceover as we are taken into the world of Raghu (Siva). The trailer begins to show how a terror attack flips his life upside down. His girlfriend Malini (Rukmini) is taken hostage, with the law enforcement (Biju Menon appears as a police officer) fighting back.

Raghu transforms into a one-man army as he packs quite the punch and proves to be a menace to the terrorists. Shockingly, a shot in the trailer also shows Raghu suffering bullet wounds to his chest. The trailer promises an adrenaline-pumping actioner shot realistically.

Fascinatingly, we see the film’s antagonist, played by Vidyut Jammwal, say, ‘No matter who wields the gun, I will always be the villain.’ This is a hat-tip to Vijay — with whom Jammwal locked horns in Murugadoss’ Thuppakki passing on the ‘thuppaki’ to Sivakarthikeyan in Venkat Prabhu’s The Greatest of All Time. This move was widely seen as Vijay passing the baton to Siva as the superstar is all set to bid adieu to films to focus on politics full-time as the chief of TVK.

Madharaasi also stars Shabeer Kallarakkal and Vikranth. Anirudh, who had worked with Sivakarthikeyan in films like Ethir Neechal, Maan Karate and Doctor, and had previously collaborated with Murugadoss for Kaththi and Darbar, is handling the music for this film.

Sreekar Prasad is the editor. Kevin Kumar is the action choreographer and Sudeep Elamon has handled the cinematography. Written by Murugadoss, the filmis produced by Sri Lakshmi Movies.
