Team Unwired from the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) has achieved a remarkable milestone at SUPRA SAEINDIA 2025, a premier national-level motorsport competition organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India.
The team secured first place in Kerala and 12th position at the national level, marking one of the most significant achievements in the institute’s motorsport journey, a press release said here on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).
The event, hosted at the prestigious Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, witnessed participation from top engineering institutions across the country. Each competing team was tasked with designing and manufacturing a student formula car in line with international standards. The assessment was conducted across parameters such as design innovation, cost-effectiveness, durability, performance, and racing ability on track.
In a proud moment for Kerala, NIT Calicut was the only institution from the State to successfully complete the endurance race, a critical component that tested engineering reliability and team efficiency under real track conditions.
Beyond the circuit success, Team Unwired is also pursuing socially relevant engineering projects. At present , the team is working on an electric road sweeper for the NIT Calicut campus, a project funded by the institute’s 1998 alumni batch.
The initiative aims to combine sustainability with technology to enhance campus cleanliness and reduce the institute’s carbon footprint, the press release said.
