He had recently approached the High Court, challenging the Special Court’s rebuffing of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau’s (VACB) preliminary inquiry report that had exonerated him from any wrongdoing in the case.
The High Court had on Tuesday (August 27, 2025) asked the State whether it had obtained a sanction to prosecute Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar in a disproportionate assets case.
Mr. Kumar had been accused of illegal amassment of wealth, unlawful felling of valuable timber from Government property, and profiting from contraband gold and hawala interdictions. The allegations against him were levelled by former Nilambur MLA P.V. Anvar, while a private complaint in this regard was lodged by Neyyatinkara P. Nagaraj.
In his plea before the High Court, Mr. Kumar had contended that he was deeply aggrieved by a “false and baseless private complaint” that had been filed against him, and the “present course of action taken by the Special Court”.
While staying the proceedings against the ADGP, a Bench of Justice A Badharudeen observed that an an officer lower than the rank of the ADGP had probed the allegations against the ADGP. A junior officer investigating a senior is not fair, it said and posted the case for hearing on September 12.
