With a month to go for the World Para Athletics Championships in the national capital, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) unveiled the official Team India jersey at a ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday (August 27, 2025). A 73-member contingent will represent India at the event from September 27 to October 5.

It was announced that Dharambir Nain and Preethi Pal, who won medals for India at the Paris Paralympics in 2024, will be India’s flag-bearers at the championships. Dharambir won the gold medal in the men’s club throw F51 event in Paris while Preethi bagged two bronze medals in the women’s 100m and 200m T35 race events. Other top para athletes Simran, Rinku, Devender Kumar, Amisha Rawat, Shreyansh Trivedi, Varun Singh Bhati and Pranav Soorma were also present for the jersey launch.

“Each athlete represents India’s resilience and pride, and we are confident that this team will deliver outstanding performances at the World Para Athletics Championships,” PCI president Devendra Jhajharia said.

Jhajharia mentioned that Mondo tracks, which provide comfort and safety for the participating athletes, will be in place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the global meet.

“During my career, we didn’t have such facilities. I had to go outside India to train for big events. But it is good that these athletes are getting the best facilities. This will help in our preparation for the LA Paralympics in 2028,” Jhajharia, a former javelin thrower who won two Paralympic gold medals, added.
