Passenger train fails to stop on platform at Kottaiyur railway station

Passengers travelling on Train No. 16849 Tiruchi-Rameswaram passenger raised an alarm as the engine crew failed to stop the train at Kottaiyur railway station near Karaikudi on Sunday.

Emergency brakes were applied to stop the train after it had almost went past the platform.

Except for the ladies coach in the rear, the entire formation of the train was halted outside the platform putting passengers into lot of inconvenience for boarding and deboarding at the station. Passengers were seen having heated arguments with the railway staff.

Senior Divisional Safety Officer, Madurai railway division, has ordered for an inter-departmental joint enquiry into the incident.
